Sora Kim, Kyungah Ham, and Park Chan-Kyong participate in the 5th Guangzhou Triennial/1st Asia Biennial: “Asia Time” from December 11, 2015 to April 10, 2016. In comparison to the global sense of “World Time”, the triennial focuses on slowness and tranquility, which are widely understood as values of “Asia Time”. Kyungah Ham will present the latest addition to her embroidery series Mona Lisa (2015) at the exhibition in Guangdong museum of Art.
Sora Kim and Park Chan-Kyong participate in a project by Korean-Dutch artist Sara van der Heide at the 5th Guangzhou Triennial. Van der Heide temporarily restages the Pyongyang Reading Room in the Guangzhou Goethe-Institut and collaborates performance, video, and various works with 14 contemporary artists around the world to discuss the role of the government in the spread of culture and freedom and censorship. For Sora Kim’s Abstract Reading (2015), a random selection of pages from different books from the German library was sent to Sora Kim. From these pages she re-creates a new text: text beyond meaning and the different languages. Park Chan-Kyong installs his video piece Flying (2006) in the Reading Room, which accounts the process of the Inter-Korean Summit Talks in 2000.
