Kukje Gallery is pleased to present Drawing for a While, a solo exhibition of U Sunok, a mid-career representative Koreanartist and a professor of Ewha Women’s University in Seoul. The present exhibition will be comprised of installations, drawings, and video works, building on herprevious conceptual oeuvre that boasts a distinctly Korean aesthetic of thevoid. Rather than rendering and describing tangible objects, U Sunok focuses on the nonexistent and the intangible, presenting their particular conditions and atmosphere. In doing so, U Sunok reflects on a nonexistent landscape, a placethat cannot be seen yet is familiar, as if it truly exists somewhere - tapping into our fantasy and nostalgic longing for a lost utopia and paradise.

국제갤러리는 한국의 대표적인 중견작가이자 이화여자대학교 교수로 재직중인 우순옥의 개인전 <잠시동안의 드로잉>을 개최한다. 그 동안 개념적인 작업으로 한국적인 여백의 미를 보여주었던 작가는 이번 전시에서 설치와 드로잉, 영상작품으로 그 사색적인 작업의 맥을 이어가고 있다. 그녀 작업의 특징은 구체적인 사물을 표현하기보다,만질 수 없고 존재하지 않은 것들에 집중하여 어떤 상태, 그 마음을 담아내고자 하는 것에있다. 이를 통해 어디에도 없는 곳에 대한 사유, 보이진않지만 어딘가에 있을 우리의 잃어버린 낙원에 대한 환상과 그리움을 이야기한다.
