Amant suspendu
Murano glass, stainless steel
80 x 15 x 15 cm

The renowned French contemporary artist Jean-Michel Othoniel first began to incorporate glass into his practice in the early 1990s after encountering artisan glassblowers from Italy, and has been significantly employing glass as his primary medium since 1992. His recent work, titled Amant suspendu, displays translucent glass beads crafted by glass artisans in Murano, an island near Venice, Italy. Varying in size, the black, purple, and silver beads absorb the light from their surroundings, adding an organic rhythm to the work and demonstrating a sense of beauty and vitality.
